Labour suite
Entrance, 5th Floor, New Mulago
Labour Suite is a very busy ward located on the fifth floor
opposite 5B ward in New Mulago.
Specialists in this division should have the theoretical and practical knowledge in detailed risk assessment before, during and after pregnancy, antenatal diagnosis of the wide range of feto-maternal disorders, some of which may require invasive procedures and the management of very high risk pregnancies during the antenatal, intrapartum and postpartum period. The comprehensive management of these patients includes diagnostic & therapeutic procedures and audit of outcome. The division provides services for referral and transfer of patients who would benefit from sub-specialty facilities, expertise and experience. It aims to establish a close collaboration with related disciplines in order to provide the high degree of teamwork and concentration of resources required for the intensive investigation and management of such patients. There is a special care baby unit nearby (on ward 5B) run by paediatricians.
The materno-fetal unit is
found on the 5th floor ofLower Mulago
Hospital on ward 5B and
5C. Ward 5C mainly handles antenatal mothers with complications of pregnancy
such as multiple pregnancies, infections in pregnancy, medical disorders of
pregnancy (e.g. diabetes mellitus, asthma, sickle cell disease etc). Mothers
admitted for elective caesarean section are also admitted on this ward. Ward
5B is mainly for post-delivery mothers; both normal deliveries and post
caesarean section. |
