  Ward 5A Duty RooM  

Division of general gynecology, reproductive medicine and family planning

Mission: To be a centre of excellence for training, research and innovative service delivery for benign gynaecological disorders in Uganda

Vision:
To promote research, training and offer preventive, curative and rehabilitative quality gynaecological care to Ugandans.

Administrative Structure
The unit is headed by a consultant gynaecologist under whom is a team of doctors and nursesThe nursing side is headed by a senior nursing officer with a team of 14 midwives.

The clinical staff includes; Dr. Kiggundu Charles, Head of the unit, Dr Kalisoke Sam, Clinical Head of Department, Dr. Nakintu Nuru,  Dr.  Nshemereirwe Ruth, several resident doctors (SHOs) and interns doctors.

Objectives
1.  To design and conduct health promotion and gynaecological preventive services in the communities
2.  To address issues related to adolescent sexual and reproductive health
3.  To provide quality and timely management of acute/ emergency gynaecological disorders
4.To provide elective gynaecological services to women seen and referred to this unit for specialised care
5.  To perform innovative and skilled quality gynaecological surgery
6.  To train and supervise nurses, intern doctors and residents for acquisition of skills and attainment of proficiency.
7.To create an environment that is conducive for training and research to improve the quality of gynaecological practice
8. To offer guidance and support supervision on gynaecological practice in Ugandan health units.
Location : It is situated on ward 5A which has a bed capacity of 30 beds.
The Emergency Gynaecological ward 5A-Annex is also situated on ward 5A.
