This large institute has links withMakerere University
through exchange programmes at both undergraduate and post graduate
levels. Currently 4 senior members of
the department are undertaking PHD programmes through Karolinska; with modules
taken both in Uganda and in Sweden. The programme supports both long term and
short term study/research projects.John Hopkins University
in the United States of
America.
This large university which promotes research and teaching
has a partnership withMakerere
University, named
MUJHU. In this obstetrics and
gynaecology department MUJHU is strongly involved in HIV/AIDS research and especially
the prevention of mother to child transmission of HIV. Clearly this area is crucial to the
department as HIV is so prevalent in our population. http://www.jhu.edu/ Eleanor Bradley
FellowshipThis fellowship was set up in collaboration with the Body
Trust and RCOG in the UK to give one obstetrics and gynaecology trainee from the U.K the opportunity to
spend one year working in Mulago Hospital Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department
in order to broaden their skills.
The
fellowship was set up in order to improve relations between junior doctors and
African midwives; as such the fellow is involved in many activities in the
department including “Midwife Updates”, a weekly teaching programme, Midwife of
the Month Award, neonatal resuscitation training for midwives, maternal death
audit and a variety of other activities. The second fellow is due to come to Mulago in August 2009. It is hoped that each fellow that comes to
the department will continue projects set up by previous fellows as well as
developing their own, in order to create a sustainable positive impact on the
department as well as great personal development.Canadian Network of
