Resumption of Open Heart Surgery

The institute in October 2007 resumed open heart surgery with assistance from the Children’s National Medical Centre (Washington) and The University of North Carolina Hospital. UHI is grateful to the expatriate staff from the two hospitals for the ‘Big Heart” they exhibited in sharing out their expertise with the local staff at UHI.

Upgrading of the Institute

This year the institute will be replacing most of its equipment with new state-of the-art machines, courtesy of the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia. With this upgrade in its equipment UHI, will be one of the best equipped units in the great Lakes region. The institute wishes to extend its most sincere appreciation to the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia for his generosity.

Uganda Heart Association

Uganda Heart Institute staff actively participated in formation of the Uganda Heart Association (UHA). The UHA held its first annual congress and general meeting on 25th January 2008. UHI was one of the key sponsors.
